Today, thousands of people are expected to support veterans of the Second World War as events take place in London to mark the 70th anniversary of Victory over Japan (VJ) Day.
This morning, Her Majesty The Queen and members of The Royal Family have attended a moving Service of Remembrance along with veterans, former Prisoners of War and Civilian Internees at St Martin-in-the-Fields Church, Trafalgar Square, organised by the National Far East Prisoners of War (FEPOW) Fellowship Remembrance Association.
This afternoon, Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will join hundreds of veterans and their families, along with current members of the Armed Forces for a special commemorative event hosted by Her Majesty’s Government and The Royal British Legion on Horse Guards Parade.
The event will begin at approximately 1400, with a spectacular flypast of current and historic aircraft including a Swordfish from the Royal Navy Historic Flight, a Dakota and Hurricane of the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and a current RAF Typhoon.
The Ministry of Defence will be live streaming the events via two VJ Day 70 Periscope broadcasts at around 1000 and 1350, and posting regular updates throughout the day using the hashtag #VJDay70. Why not join in?
Members of the public are urged to go down to Whitehall and support the veterans. Once there, you'll be able to see the flypast, watch the Horse Guards Parade service on big screens and cheer on our VJ Day heroes as they parade down Whitehall to Westminster Abbey.
