Broadcasters this morning lead with reports that New Year celebrations in Munich were overshadowed by a police warning of an imminent terror attack by Daesh militants.
Flooding
There is continued coverage of flooding across the north of England and Scotland, as thousands of people started 2016 without power and thousands more were still cleaning up after the floods that brought devastation to many parts of the country over Christmas. There are fears of further flooding, with Scotland and Northumberland among the areas braced for more rain on Sunday and Monday. The Express is among the outlets to cover this story.
Terror threat
The Times reports that Europe waited for New Year celebrations with a hint of trepidation to see if terrorists would strike again. It writes that police and soldiers kept a vigilant eye over revellers as fears grew of another Daesh attack on 'soft targets' after the November attacks in Paris. Broadcasters and online outlets report that police in Munich asked people to stay away from the city's main railway station and a second station in the city's Pasing neighbourhood because of the 'serious, imminent threat' of a terror attack. Reports say Munich police posted on Facebook that according to 'serious information, there will be an attack tonight'. German news agency DPA reported that one station had been evacuated and trains would no longer stop there.
