Of note in Defence news today is further reporting on a US air strike against Daesh targets in Libya.
Libya air strike
There is widespread coverage today of yesterday's news of a US air strike on Daesh targets in Libya. The majority of papers follow up on this, including The Telegraph, The Mirror, Daily Mail, The Guardian and The Star. Coverage references the use of British bases to launch the attack, and carries a statement by Defence Secretary Michael Fallon, which can be seen in full below. Most papers speculate that one of the “masterminds” behind last summer’s massacre of British tourists in Tunisia was killed in the air strike.
Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said:
I welcome this strike that has taken out a Daesh training camp being used to train terrorists to carry out attacks. I was satisfied that its destruction makes us all safer, and I personally authorised the US use of our bases.
