Defence stories appearing today include reporting on the Syrian ceasefire, laser pens being aimed at US military jets and speculation that British military bases could become migrant camps.

Migrant camps

The Daily Mail online reports that British military bases could become migrant camps under plans being examined by defence officials. The speculative pieces says that asylum seekers could be housed on bases across the country.

A Government spokesperson said:

As part of a range of options being considered by UKVI, the MoD has been asked to examine the possibility of providing temporary accommodation for asylum applicants on the defence estate. No decision has been made.

 Syria

The BBC reports from Damascus where there has been a lull in fighting following the recent ceasefire. The reporter said there is deep political pressure on the factions and groups involved given the violent context of the past five years but said there were negotiations going on regarding aid deliveries and that some people had been  

Laser pens

The Daily Mirror, The Sun and The Independent report that the crew of a US military jet were disorientated by someone shining a laser pen as they landed at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk.
