The papers today are dominated by the terror attacks in Brussels as Belgium begins three days of national mourning following the bomb attacks which killed more than 30 people.

SECURITY

Following reports on yesterday’s attacks in Brussels, many of the papers focus on security both in the UK and across Europe. The Mirror writes that troops have been sent out undercover to patrol UK cities. The article suggests that security chiefs have sent out the Army in support of police on Britain's streets under Operation Temperer.

A MOD spokesperson said:

The MOD works closely with other government departments and agencies to ensure that it is able to provide appropriate assistance in response to any security threats, including national security. We keep contingency plans under constant review.

GRAVITY SENSORS

The Telegraph writes that a scientific breakthrough in a Ministry of Defence research project could could allow the military to one day ‘see underground or through walls’. The paper writes that a team of British scientists, including experts at MOD’s Porton Down labs, have developed a new device that could pave the way for technology allowing the military to see underground and map caves or tunnels, or observe targets hidden behind walls.
