In today's Defence media there is reporting on flights for widows of servicemen killed in the Falklands conflict.

Fallujah

The BBC reported last night from Fallujah, where Iraqi commanders engaged in fighting Daesh were interviewed. You can read more about the RAF's contribution to the Fallujah offensive on our air strike update page

Falklands flights

The Times runs a story that widows of servicemen killed in the Falklands conflict have been asked to pay more than £2,200 to take flights to the South Atlantic which are not full. The piece says that those who have been awarded the South Atlantic medal qualify for reduced fares on the MOD aircraft. Our full statement can be found below.

An MOD spokesperson said:

The military flight to the Falklands is a vital operational flight to support our presence in the South Atlantic and this must take priority. Where possible we offer subsidised airfare to veterans awarded the South Atlantic Medal.

Image of the Day

Trailing white wakes beneath Scotland’s most famous crossing, half the vessels in the Royal Navy’s 1st Patrol Boat Squadron demonstrate their ability to move at speed (nearly 18kts, or just over 20mph) in close formation. Fresh from participation in centenary events in Orkney for the Battle of Jutland – when they carried royalty and national leaders across the bleak expanse of Scapa Flow – eight boats mustered in Leith docks for a day of combined training.
