Today’s front pages carry reports from yesterday’s Somme commemorations.
BATTLE OF THE SOMME
Every media outlet carries coverage of the Somme centenary commemorations in Thiepval yesterday, attended by the Prime Minister, members of the Cabinet and Royals including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. Thousands of guests attended a noon service at the memorial site in North East France, while in Manchester and several other locations around the UK equivalent services were conducted. Several outlets also report that commuters were moved to tears by actors dressed as First World War soldiers at railway stations and other locations across the country.
CHILCOT REPORT
The Mirror, Mail and Times carry articles previewing the publication of the Chilcot report on Wednesday. The government's position is below.
Sir John Chilcot will publish the final report of the Iraq Inquiry next week and it would not be appropriate to speculate on the content of the report. Government will consider its findings carefully once it is published.
