IRAQ
The Mail on Sunday carries a piece about the Kurdish Peshmerga, which suggests that the rapid gains made by their forces – backed by RAF airstrikes – mean that Daesh could be driven out of the area within months.
During the Defence Secretary's visit to RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus earlier this month Michael Fallon MP praised the UK Armed Forces' contribution to supporting efforts to tackle Daesh, which includes helping to train more than 21,000 Iraqi forces, carrying out over 900 air strikes, and delivering around £1.4 million worth of machine gun and sniper ammunition to the Kurdish forces who are battling Daesh in the north of Iraq.
