There is widespread coverage across broadcast and in print that an Army bomb disposal team was sent to Birmingham’s Lee Bank as a precautionary measure as five men were arrested by West Midlands anti-terrorism police.

WEST MIDLANDS ARRESTS

News that five men have been arrested by West Midlands anti-terror police on suspicion of commissioning, preparing or instigating acts of terrorism has featured heavily in the broadcast headlines since the story broke yesterday evening with all coverage noting that an army bomb disposal unit was sent to one of the arrests as a ‘precautionary’ measure.

The story has also been picked up by the Daily Mail, Daily Mirror, The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian and The Times all prominently noting the involvement of the army as police suspected one property was being used as a ‘bomb factory’.

An Army spokesman said:

An Army Bomb Disposal Team has been involved in assisting West Midlands Police.

An investigation is being carried out by the police and any further enquiries should be directed toward them.
