Today's Defence news includes reports on the hunt for a missing RAF Serviceman, continued reporting of conditions in Aleppo and a defence of the work of IHAT.

MISSING RAF SERVICEMAN

The Daily Mirror and Daily Star report that a serviceman has gone missing following a night out on Saturday morning. The article leads with the headline that he ‘may have been abducted’ following comments from his mother. The Sun also reports on the missing serviceman but does not state anything about an abduction.

 ALEPPO

The Times, Daily Express, Wall Street Journal and Daily Telegraph letters all report that Syrian Government forces are preparing a large assault against the city, and highlight that the conditions in the city have worsened, especially its medical facilities which have repeatedly been bombed.

IRAQ ENQUIRY

Following his comments on IHAT last week, Nicholas Mercer writes in the Guardian that it is important that IHAT is allowed to do its job, claiming that recent negative stories are an orchestrated narrative designed to discredit a much-needed organisation. The Daily Telegraph has a small article that the long-running investigation risks putting people off joining the army.  The Sun writes that the Justice Secretary ‘has declared war on tank-chasers’ and that changes will be made in legal aid.

PRINCE HARRY

The Sun is claiming that Prince Harry is now supporting the Sun’s campaign to free six paratroopers currently in jail in India. A father of one of the prisoners wrote to the Royal, who replied that he sent his very best wishes and hoped that there was a reduction soon.
