Today defence related coverage includes speculative reports about potential Army support during rail strikes and a legal case from Northern Ireland.
RAIL REPLACEMENT
The Daily Mail and the Times follow up previous coverage in speculating that soldiers could be called in to drive replacement buses during any rail strike.
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said:
The Ministry of Defence has no plans to deploy military personnel in response to this latest round of rail strikes.
NORTHERN IRELAND
The Sun, Daily Mail and the Daily Telegraph carry reports saying that a soldier claims he is being treated like a terrorist over the death of an IRA gunman 44 years ago. There are quotes attributed to a 67-year-old ex-paratrooper, known only as Soldier A during legal proceedings.
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said:
This case is now subject to live legal proceedings and further comment would not be appropriate. Any member of the military affected by this legal case will rightly be supported throughout and will receive free MOD legal representation.
