Today's defence stories centre around the Army's support to local communities as adverse weather conditions affect the UK.
Extreme weather
There is widespread coverage, including in The Daily Telegraph, The Independent and The Sun, that the Army is on standby to help as adverse weather conditions affect the UK. That includes reports that the Army has been deployed from Catterick to Skegness to support the Lincolnshire Police.
Armed Forces Minister Mike Penning said:
Soldiers from 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment are supporting their colleagues in Lincolnshire Police warning, information and evacuating residents of Skegness whose homes are at risk of flooding tonight. Our Armed Forces stand ready to help the civil authorities should they be needed and this operation demonstrates the adaptability, agility and professionalism of our soldiers.
Fight against Daesh
The Daily Mail, The Daily Star and The Sun update on the UK's fight against Daesh, and report that an RAF Reaper spotted Daesh fighters firing on each other after confusion was caused by an airstrike, killing at least one of their own in the fallout.
