Defence news today includes further coverage of the Munich Security Conference, which was attended by Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon.

Munich Security Conference

In an article in The Telegraph about the US call for European nations to increase defence spending, the paper references comments from Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon about his US counterpart James Mattis' call for Europe to "step up". Elsewhere, the FT reflects in its coverage the Defence Secretary's comments welcoming Mr Mattis’ commitment to NATO and its modernisation.

The Telegraph also reported that Sir Michael told the Munich conference that Russia is “testing” the NATO alliance, while The Times has said the Defence Secretary has warned Russia over involvement in Libya. Coverage notes that the UK playing its part with increases in training and improvements of Libya's coastguard capacity, and separately that the Defence Secretary and the Foreign Secretary have launched a framework for Britain's defence engagement, which includes “stepping up” global commitments and leadership.
