150th Anniversary of the Shipping Forecast

The milestone is covered online on The Guardian, The Telegraph, and extensively on BBC Radio 4. Appearing on BBC Radio 4, Captain Robert Pedre, the commanding officer of HMS OCEAN, said that he still listened to the Forecast, with “every Naval captain intrinsically interested in the weather”, praising the information as a “succinct and accurate summary of the weather”. He added, that the “complexity of operations today means we need far greater detail” and therefore there are a range of sources of information available.
