Today’s defence-related news includes an interview with Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson and EU Defence cooperation.

Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson

The Sun interviewed the Defence Secretary whilst he was visiting Copehill Down yesterday. On the front page, the paper writes that the Defence Secretary has vowed to continue to take the fight to Daesh. The Defence Secretary also says that he will ‘fight tooth and nail’ to protect the Armed Forces, and that Russia poses a greater threat than it did during the Cold War.

EU Defence Cooperation 

The Daily Telegraph, The Timesand The Express this morning report on yesterday’s meeting of EU Defence Ministers.

A Government spokesperson said:

We welcome the progress towards the launch of PESCO and are engaging with its development where appropriate.

This will be a useful tool to support European security, provided it remains complementary to NATO and encourages NATO-EU cooperation.
