Today’s defence related news includes coverage of the Winter Olympics and defence budget.

Winter Olympics

The Times and The Sun profile Army Lance Sergeant Lamin Deen, Grenadier Guards, who is set to compete in the Winter Olympics as part of the Men's Bobsleigh Team.

In his interview, Lance Sergeant Deen said the Army "sets you up nicely for bobsleigh because you have to be very robust." He described how the Armed Forces have been "supportive" and encouraged him to pursue his bobsleigh career whilst staying in the Army.

NAO Report

The Daily Record examines the National Audit Office report on the MOD's financial plan for equipment. The article focuses on the cost of nuclear submarine building programmes. Comments from SNP Defence spokesperson Stewart McDonald MP are featured who states his concern with the rising cost of the nuclear deterrent  and calls for transparency regarding costs.

An MOD spokesperson said:

We have just launched the Modernising Defence programme to ensure our Armed Forces have everything they need to defend the country from intensifying threats across the globe. We have already saved almost £5bn in efficiencies while making sure our military have the best equipment available and taxpayers get value for many.
