Investigations into Troubles veterans
The Daily Express outlined Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson’s comments at Defence Questions in yesterday, in which he stated he was “very keen” to consider how we can protect service personnel from legacy investigations.
The Daily Record outlines actions taken by Northern Ireland veterans to highlight their situation, including sending postcards to Downing Street and posting images on social media of themselves patrolling in Northern Ireland.
Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson said:
I am very keen to look at all options as to how best we can protect service personnel who have given so much in the service of our country.
Nuclear test veterans
At Defence Questions yesterday, the Defence Secretary stated that he would be to meet the British Nuclear Test Veterans’ Association to discuss rewarding nuclear test veterans for their contribution during the 1950s.
The Daily Mirror reports that the Defence Secretary said in the Commons that he would be “honoured to meet the test veterans at the earliest possible opportunity” and features an interview with a family member of a veteran.
Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson said:
I would be honoured to meet with my right honourable friend and those test veterans at the earliest possible opportunity.
