Today’s media features further reports on former RAF officer Samantha McConnell following the urgent intervention of Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson to reverse the decision on whether her children would receive her pension.

Former RAF officer's pension

Samantha McConnell has been told that she has only weeks to live after recently being diagnosed with terminal cancer. Initially, she was told that her children were not eligible to receive her pension as they were born after she left the service. Following an urgent review of the case the Defence Secretary has instructed the Department to reverse this decision.

The Mirror, The Sun and the Express all report on the story and carry the Defence Secretary’s quote.

An MOD Spokesperson said:

The Defence Secretary’s intervention in Sammi’s case reflects the unique nature of her situation. We will continue to examine any cases that are exceptional and take action if needed.
