Today’s defence-related news includes discussion of the RAF’s Tornado fast jet retiring.
Tornado retirement
Radio 4’s Today programme carried a segment this morning on the retirement of the Tornado, which is leaving service in March after 40 years, and the series of flypasts that will mark the occasion.
Air Commodore Mark Roberts was on the programme, commenting: “It is a wonderful aeroplane” and noted it was the UK’s first step from Cold War capability into more modern technology. He added that more contemporary aircraft are now better-suited to the UK’s current challenges.
