Russian aircraft

There has also been widespread reporting today, including on the Telegraph website, that RAF Typhoon aircraft scrambled to intercept Russian aircraft travelling off the coast of the UK yesterday. Our position on the matter is here:

An MoD spokesperson said:

RAF Quick Reaction Alert Typhoon fighter aircraft were launched yesterday after Russian aircraft were identified flying close to UK airspace. The Russian planes were escorted by the RAF until they were out of the UK area of interest. At no time did the Russian military aircraft cross into UK sovereign airspace.

Today’s Mail has reported that more than 300 troops will leave Sierra Leone in the coming weeks, halving the strength of the military in Sierra Leone. The remaining soldiers will stay until there are no more reports of cases.
