The Daily Mail, The Sun, Daily Express, Daily Mail, Daily Mirror, Daily Star, Daily Telegraph, Guardian and Times report today that a British soldier who tried to join Kurdish forces battling ISIL is returning to his unit. The coverage includes comments from the soldier’s mother who said she was “relieved and pleased” he was coming home.
The Sun, Daily Telegraph and Independent report that an inquest has heard that two British soldiers were killed by “friendly fire” in Afghanistan when an anti-tank missile ordered by a Danish commander hit them. Captain Tom Sawyer and Corporal Danny Winter were clearing Taliban compounds in central Helmand when the incident happened in 2009.
