Today’s defence related coverage leads with the announcement that the UK is set to deploy a further 100 troops to the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan to boost support for the UN Mission in country.
There is also coverage of a meeting between Defence Secretary Michael Fallon and US Secretary for Defence Ash Carter in to the lead up to the United Nations Peacekeeping Defence Ministerial held in London today.
UN Troop Deployment to South Sudan
This morning, the Defence Secretary Michael Fallon appeared on Good Morning Britain, BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Today. During the interviews, he said that a further 100 troops will be deployed to the UN, building on the commitment made last year to send 300 peacekeepers. These additional UK personnel will enable the provision of a field hospital to support peacekeepers from the UK and other UN countries.

This large scale deployment underlines how we are stepping up our global commitments.
Backed by a rising defence budget, it’s part of our effort to tackle the instability that leads to mass migration and terrorism. It will help keep Britain safe while improving lives abroad.
