A variety of newspapers, including The Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Daily Mail and The Daily Express report that the UK is stepping up its package of measures to support its allies in Europe, including sending 800 personnel along with tanks, armoured vehicles and drones to Estonia, with France and Denmark also contributing troops. Coverage also includes RAF Typhoon aircraft being committed to the NATO Southern Air Policing mission to offer reassurance to the UK’s Black Sea allies.

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said:

Backed by a rising defence budget this deployment of air, land and sea forces shows that we will continue to play a leading role in NATO, supporting the defence and security of our allies from the north to the south of the alliance.

The Oxfordshire County Committee of the Royal British Legion, with the support of 11 EOD Regiment Royal Logistic Corps (11 EOD Regt RLC) and The Felix Fund –the bomb disposal charity based in Didcot, held a spectacular event to mark the launch of the 2016 Poppy Appeal in Oxfordshire. At Vauxhall Barracks, in a way unique to 11 EOD their Explosive Ordnance Device robot – known as Cutlass which is a fast manoeuvrable wheeled robot presented the first Oxfordshire Poppy to the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, Mr John Harwood. This joint event demonstrates how The Royal British Legion is working with those currently serving in Oxfordshire.” Lieutenant Colonel Howard, Commanding Officer 11 EOD Regt RLC said, “The work of the Royal British Legion and Felix Fund are as important today as they ever have been. Many of 11 EOD Regiment’s soldiers and their families have benefitted from both charities and will continue to do so in years to come as we counter explosive threats daily at home and abroad. Being able to take part in this year’s Oxfordshire Poppy Launch is a real privilege and we are honoured to help raise awareness of these important causes.” Melanie Moughton, CEO of Felix Fund said, “As a small military charity Felix Fund is thrilled to be involved in such an occasion. We have worked with RBL to help a number of ex-soldiers in need, and to have a share of this media event is hugely beneficial for awaren
