Today's defence related news includes coverage of the crew moving on board the new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth.

HMS Queen Elizabeth crew move onboard

The Royal Navy crew for the HMS Queen Elizabeth has taken up residence on board in readiness for ‘first of class’ sea trials this summer. The Mail Online has reported on HMS Queen Elizabeth’s capabilities, noting that the 65,000-tonne carrier will host 700 sailors and up to 40 aircraft. Press Association and The Herald also covered the story, carrying comments from commanding officer Captain Jerry Kyd and Sub Lieutenant Reece Statham-Quilty, Weapons Engineer, about the importance of this milestone in the carrier programme.

Commanding Officer, Captain Jerry Kyd Royal Navy, said:

“There is great momentum to get the carrier, her complex systems and my Ship’s Company ready for the important sea trials programme.  The effort from our industry partners, Ministry of Defence and Naval Personnel to get us to this point has been immense.  It has been a massive team effort and I am proud of every individual contribution”.
