Defence Secretary visits 2 SCOTS
Forces News and BFBS Scotland report on the Defence Secretary's visit to 2 SCOTS yesterday at Glencorse Barracks in Penciuik, near Edinburgh, where he met troops preparing to deploy to Iraq to deliver training to the Iraqi forces, as well as those who will be supporting UN Operations in Cyprus and South Sudan.
Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon said:
The men and women of our Scottish-based Armed Forces perform a pivotal role in keeping the people of this country, and our allies, safe. From Afghanistan to South Sudan to Cyprus as well as recent deployments in the UK, the strength and versatility of 2 SCOTS allows them to operate in varied roles that span continents and project UK influence across the globe. The men and women who serve here today can be proud of the valuable contribution they make to our security both at home and abroad.
Defence estate in Scotland
The Aberdeen Press and Journal report on comments made by the Scottish Veterans Minister regarding the Better Defence Estate strategy in Scotland.
An MOD spokesperson said:
We are one of the biggest landowners in Scotland, with an estate more than eight times the size of the City of Glasgow. Every penny made from the sale of sites will be invested back into defence, transforming the estate into one that will better support the needs of a modern fighting force. While no final decision about future sites has been made, the Government is committed to having an enduring defence presence in Scotland, where it continues to invest heavily.
