Today's defence-related news includes interviews with Major General Rupert Jones on the fight against Daesh and the UK military standing by to assist in the aftermath of Storm Ophelia if needed.

Major General Rupert Jones interviews

Major General Jones appeared on the BBC Radio 4 Today Programme and BBC World Service this morning. The interviews focused on Raqqa, and included discussion on the significance of the fight against Daesh and what will happen next both for the city and in the battle more widely.

He explained that the liberation of the city was close and said this has been a long, hard fight, and that tribute should be paid to the Syria Democratic Forces (SDF), who have done the fighting on the ground with the support of the Coalition.
