Today’s defence related news includes false claims that the Army has relaxed its drug policy for new recruits.

Army’s Drug Policy

This morning’s Mail on Sunday splashes with false claims that the Army has relaxed its policy on drugs for recruits. This has been followed up in The SunMirror Online and Sky News.

 An Army spokesperson said:

There has been no relaxation of the Army’s longstanding zero-tolerance policy on drug misuse.

To suggest otherwise is completely untrue.

Duty of care

The Sunday Express has published an opinion piece from Defence Minister Tobias Ellwood in which he talks about the importance of discussing mental fitness within the armed forces. The Minister states that the army is changing its culture to improve how mental wellbeing is viewed and highlights the support we are providing including our Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy, the Veterans Gateway and our recent partnership with the Royal Foundation.
