Defence news today includes continued coverage of the heroic military dog Mali.

Heroic military dog Mali awarded the Dickin medal

Following yesterday’s coverage, there is continued reporting of Military dog Mali, who has been awarded the PDSA Dickin Medal – renowned as the highest decoration a military animal can receive – for service to the Armed Forces in Afghanistan. Reporting is carried in The Independent, BBC News Online, The Daily Mirror, The Daily Star, The Daily Record and Press & Journal and focuses on Mali’s service in a particular operation in Kabul, Afghanistan in 2012 where Mali skilfully detected the presence of enemy fighters.

A British Military Working Dog (MWD) who helped save the lives of troops in Afghanistan has received the prestigious PDSA Dickin Medal* – the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross. Mali, a Belgian Malinois, has been recognised for his heroic actions during a highly sensitive military operation in 2012, where he assisted an assault force in securing a key enemy stronghold.
