Defence news today includes reporting about a National Audit Office report on military housing and HMS Queen Elizabeth's sea trials.
NAO Report on Annington Homes
Newspapers today cover the publication of the National Audit Office report on an MOD deal to sell military housing to a company called Annington Homes.
An MOD spokesperson said:
The NAO supported the Annington deal in 1997 and is clear that the surge in house prices could not have been predicted. We have a team working on renegotiating the deal, and believe that rent prices should continue to fall to secure value for money for taxpayers.
HMS Queen Elizabeth
The Sun has reported on the activation of fire warning system on-board HMS Queen Elizabeth after they received a video of an inadvertent discharge of the hangar firefighting system.
A Royal Navy spokesperson said:
We can confirm that following a routine exercise alongside, the fire warning system was inadvertently triggered on-board HMS Queen Elizabeth and some sprays activated, but she remains on track with her trials programme.
