The BBC, Mail Online, The Herald and The Scotsman report on the repatriation of Captain Dean Sprouting who died on 31 January 2018 in Iraq. He was serving with Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland.
An MOD spokesperson said:
The incident is currently under investigation, but we can confirm that it was not the result of enemy activity.
Defence Minister Mark Lancaster said:
It it was with deep regret that the Ministry of Defence confirms the death of Captain Dean Sprouting of the Adjutant General Corps, who died earlier this week at Al Asad Air Base in Iraq. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very difficult time. An investigation is currently underway to establish the detail but it is not a result of enemy activity.
