Today’s defence related news features an interview with JFC Commander, General Sir Chris Deverell, and an update on Lord Guthrie.

JFC Commander

Radio 4's Today programme interviewed JFC Commander, General Sir Chris Deverell this morning. The interview came ahead of Gen Deverell's participation on a Founders Forum discussion panel looking at how defence encourages innovation and is a source of great investment for tech companies.

During the interview, the JFC Commander detailed the range of threats facing the UK from cyber attacks and how the establishment of the National Cyber Security Centre is leading the Government's response in tackling these challenges.

Update on Field Marshal the Lord Guthrie of Craigiebank GCB LVO OBE DL

After a long and distinguished career in the Army, Field Marshal the Lord Guthrie was riding as usual as Colonel Life Guards on the Queen’s Birthday Parade when unfortunately he was unseated from his horse, close to the Queen Victoria Memorial near Buckingham Palace. He was assisted immediately by members of the Metropolitan Police, St John’s Ambulance and the London Ambulance Service who ensured that he was moved swiftly to hospital.

He is now in the very capable hands of the National Health Service where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries.  Despite those injuries, he is sitting up in bed and is in remarkably good spirits but it is likely that he will remain in hospital for a few more days.

Field Marshal the Lord Guthrie and Lady Guthrie have been touched by the very many messages of concern and support but at present, visitors are being kept to a minimum to allow him to recover.  He is in the best possible care and we all wish him a speedy recovery.
