Today’s Defence-related news includes coverage on the MOD's plans to deregister common land for a firing range.

MOD Plans to Deregister Common Land

The Times has reported that villagers in Cumbria are fighting to protect common land in the region after the MOD applied to deregister fells near Appleby-in-Westmorland after a two-day public inquiry began yesterday. The report features quotes from a Foundation for Common Land member who disputed the application.

An MOD spokesperson said:

We are not proposing to restrict public access in any way and have no plans to sell the land. We have applied to de-register land at Warcop Training Area to safeguard the MOD's ability to train.
